U. S. GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES 2006 IMMIGRANT VISA LOTTERY PROGRAM

(16/11/2004)

The United States Government has announced the instructions for application to the 2006 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-2006).  This program, popularly known as the Visa Lottery program, provides an opportunity for people in Zimbabwe and other nations to apply for an immigrant visa to the United States.  Applications will only be accepted on line and not by mail.

Entries for the DV-2006 Diversity Visa Lottery must be submitted electronically between Friday, November 5, 2004 and Friday, January 07, 2005.  Applicants may access the electronic diversity visa entry form at www.dvlottery.state.gov during the 60-day registration period beginning November 5.  Paper entries will not be accepted.

The application process is very simple.  It is not necessary to pay a company or other third party to complete this process.  There is no initial fee required to enter the DV-2006 program.  No company or third party can improve the chances of an applicant being granted an immigrant visa.  Applicants may be disqualified for not completing the application form correctly or for submitting more than one application.

The Diversity Immigrant Visa program makes available up to 50,000 permanent resident immigrant visas each year.  The visas are granted by random selection and are distributed among several geographic regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, South America, Central America and the Caribbean.  Applicants must meet either the education or training requirement of the DV program.

Those who wish to enter the DV-2006 lottery should obtain a copy of the instructions in the “Visa Bulletin,” which may be found either at the Bureau of Consular Affairs web site: www.travel.state.gov or the U. S. embassy web site: www.harare.usembassy.gov.

Instructions can also be found in complete information packages on DV-2006, which can be obtained from the U. S. Embassy at 172 Herbert Chitepo Avenue, Monday through Thursday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. or the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section (Century House East, Nelson Mandela Avenue at Angwa Street).
