2013 Fulbright Science & Technology Award
 

Call for Applications

The American Embassy is now accepting applications for the 2014 Fulbright International Science & Technology scholarship.  The award is designed to be among the most prestigious international scholarships in science and technology.  The International Fulbright Science and Technology award is for Ph.D. study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering The Fulbright program is the principal international educational program sponsored by the United States government. The primary source of funding for the Fulbright program is an annual appropriation by the United States Congress.

Eligibility Requirements

Successful applicants for the Fulbright International Science & Technology award should:

  • Be Zimbabwean citizens
  • Be affiliated with, and committed work at an educational or scientific research institution in Zimbabwe upon completion of the designated program.
  • Have completed prior academic study equivalent to at least a 4 year U.S. bachelor's degree,
  • Be fluent in English,
  • Have an outstanding academic record and preparation in chosen field,
  • Have satisfactory required test scores (GRE, TOEFL, etc.)
  • Have high motivation and a serious commitment to completing the program within a   specific time-frame and returning home immediately after the approved program. 

Fields of Study

Eligible fields include: aeronautics and astronomics/aeronautical engineering, astronomy/planetary sciences, biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, computer sciences/engineering, energy, engineering (electrical, chemical, civil, mechanical, ocean, and petroleum), environmental science/engineering, geology/earth and atmospheric sciences, information sciences/engineering, materials science/engineering, mathematics, neuroscience/brain and cognitive sciences, oceanography, and physics.

Application/Selection Process

Interested applicants must send certified copies of all degree transcripts, an updated CV and a statement of purpose no more than 2 pages in length.  The statement should indicate degree desired (including major field and specialization), candidate’s research interests, and long term career goals. Applicants must also discuss how they intend to contribute to their home university and to Zimbabwe after obtaining their desired degree.  Awards and university placement will be announced around April/May 2014 for programs beginning around August/September 2014.  Pre-academic programs focusing on information technology for research purposes and academic writing as well as intensive English language training may begin around June/July 2014. Application deadline is March 30, 2013.  

 
GRANT PROVISIONS    

The Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program provides:  

  • Round-trip economy international travel and excess-baggage allowance.
  • An allowance for settling in.
  • A pre-academic orientation program.
  • A monthly maintenance allowance and funding for books and professional activities.
  • Tuition and university fees.
  • Limited accident and sickness insurance
