Virginia Chihota (23)

Virginia  Chihota was born on March 29, 1983 at Chitungwiza General Hospital in Chitungwiza. Virginia is the third born, in a family of four. She did her secondary education at Seke 3 High School.  She is a studying fine art at Harare Polytechnic. Before, she studied art at British American Tobacco (BAT) workshop. She is mainly interested in prints, paintings and textiles; her major is print-making. Her theme is “Mother-Daughter- relationships”.  Her work has been exhibited at the National Gallery, Delta Gallery, Veranda and Art for Hope.

 

Fungai Mwale (25)

 
 Fungai
Fungai Mwale was born on the 2nd of March 1981 in Harare. He is the fifth child in a family of eight. Fungai attended Harare High School and Seke 4 High School. He studied fine art at the BAT workshop during 2003-2004. Currently, Fungai is doing fine art at Harare Polytechnic. His main themes are “Hope” and “Fixing lives” which might mean problems faced by native people are likely to have solutions. His work is figurative, though the figures are distorted. Fungai tries to simplify his art, as evidenced in the bigger brush-marks which he employs. He also uses a lot of colour. His majors are painting and print-making. He has exhibited in many group exhibits since 2004.

Samuel Ziso Mudiwa (24)

 
 Samuel
Samuel Ziso Mudiwa was born on the 24th of September 1982 in Maun, Botswana. He is the last child in a family of five. He attended Hartzell High school (Mutare) for his ‘O’ levels, and proceeded to Cranborne Boys High School for his ‘A’ levels. Samuel is currently studying fine art at Harare Polytechnic. He has been involved in different projects which include video editing, script writing and photography. Samuel won an award for the best script-writer for the short film “Kukura Kuremerwa” (Size does not matter), which was sponsored by Zimbabwe International Film Festival. He has also exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, including Manisa, Art for Hope, and Art Alive in Mutare. His main theme is “Barriers/Walls/Street lights” which might mean communication obstacles.
Samuel’s sculpture is in simple form, and he enjoys mixing medium.  His artwork is highly symbolical, with no human beings but just objects.

Tongesai Machiri (24)

 
 Tongesai
Tongesai  Machiri was born on December 24, 1982 in Glen-View, Harare. He attended Ellis Robins High and Churchill High schools during 1997-2000. He is a fine artist currently studying at Harare Polytechnic. Prior to joining the Art department, Tongesai attended the BAT workshop, in conjunction with the National Gallery in 2003-2004. His works usually depict “Social scenes”, elements that affect the well-being and behavioral attitudes of society within the community. He enjoys using bright colors, thus producing figurative paintings. His majors are sculpture and painting.

 

George Tomy (24)

George Tomy was born on March 25, 1982 in Harare. He is only boy in a family of five. He initially studied art at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe whilst doing his ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels at Seke 3 High School. George is currently studying for his National Diploma in fine art at Harare Polytechnic. His theme is “Night Mood” or “Night life”.  His work is experimental, as he employs abstract expressions and he uses ethnic colors. George’s majors are painting and sculpture, and he has exhibited at many group exhibits. Also, he has done live graffiti performance at Harare International Festival of Arts (HIFA).

Kumbulani Zamuchiya (24)

 
 Kumbulani
Kumbulani was born 24 years ago. He is the third born in a family of six. Kumbulani attended Hartzell High School for his “O” levels, and went on to Churchill Boys High for his “A” levels. He is a fine artist studying at Harare Polytechnic. His theme, “Teachers” as the advisors and masters in society. His sculptures mainly consist of wood, strings scrap metal and nails, and Kumbulani implies that the sculptures are inspirational to those with an “inventive mind”.  Kumbulani has exhibited in a number of group exhibits, such as Art for Hope, Art Alive Festival. He was awarded a merit by Allied Art. Kumbulani has an interest in script development and editing for short films, and also enjoys organizing events. His majors are sculpting and painting in his diploma studies.

Portia Zvavahera (21)

 
 Portia
Portia was born on the 22nd of March 1985 in Kambuzuma, Harare.  Portia is the eldest in a family of five. She did her secondary education at Oriel Girls High School. She initially studied art at the British American Tobacco (BAT) workshop during 2003-2004.  She is a student of fine art at Harare Polytechnic.  Portia’s theme is mainly “Children’s relationships at play”. Her brush-marks are free, thus showing movement of children at play. Painting is her favorite media. Her work has been featured at many group exhibitions since 2004.
