The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Harare is pleased to assist five final-year Harare Polytechnic students- James Mupakwa, Talkmore Guyo, Tariro Shoko, Washington Dhlakama and Godfrey Chipunza- launch their career in fine arts with an exhibition of their works as students at its auditorium in Eastgate.
The exhibition will run until late January 2008.
This is the second annual presentation of artwork by students from the Harare Polytechnic being hosted by the U.S. Embassy. Last year, the Embassy supported an exhibition by seven graduating students- Portia Zvavahera, Fungai Mwale, Tongesai Machiri, George Tom, Virginia Chihota, Samuel Ziso Mudiwa and Kumbulani Zamuchiya- from the same college. All the former students are now full time artists and their blossoming careers have seen some of them attain resident artist status with renowned art galleries in the country while others have been invited to the United States for seminars and workshops.
“We are pleased to host this exhibition, which also provides an opportunity to the students to showcase the products of their time in college to a broader audience,” says Paul Engelstad, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy.
The U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section, in collaboration with the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, supported the framing and display of the art.
