Pfumvudza (New Season) August Exhibition

On Wednesday August the 8th, the US Embassy Public Affairs Section, held a reception for a diverse group of Zimbabwean artists, under the theme “Pfumvudza” (the new leaf of the approaching season).

The sculpture and paintings by these established and aspiring artists will be on display at the Public Affairs Section library and auditorium at the Eastgate Centre in Harare for the next month. Sculpture by McDonald Nyamayaro and Victor Chikumbirike, were well received for their larger-than-life representation of traditional Zimbabwean figures in stone. A choice of paintings in acrylic and mixed media was provided by resident artists at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe.

The Public Affairs Officer, Paul Engelstad praised the talent expressed by Zimbabwean artists. He was pleased to provide facilities for the artists to receive exposure and stimulate interest in their work from the regular visitors to the PAS library and the Education Advising Center. The US Charge d’Affaires, Katherine Dhanani encouraged Zimbabwean artists to make the most of these mutually beneficial opportunities with the US Public Affairs Section.

Since October 2006, the PAS has held exhibitions of work from graduating students at the Harare Polytechnic, paintings from women in Bulawayo and women sculptors from Harare.

Sam Mudiwa who graduated from the Harare Polytechnic in 2006, recently returned from a summer study program at the Parsons School of Design in New York. Sam was the recipient of the scholarship as a result of his exhibited work at the PAS in Eastgate, Harare.
