Junior Staff Development

 

Call for Applications

 

Application deadline is April 30, 2009

The American Embassy is now accepting applications for the 2010 Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program.  This program will award grants to Zimbabwean University faculty for advanced degree in the United States.   The Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program is the largest Fulbright program with Africa and is designed primarily to strengthen African universities through higher degree training.   

The Fulbright program is the principal international educational program sponsored by the United States government. The primary source of funding for the Fulbright program is an annual appropriation by the United States Congress.   

 

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful applicants for the Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program should:
  • Be a Zimbabwean citizens or nationals of the country in which they apply,
  • Be affiliated with, and committed work at an educational institution in Zimbabweupon
  • completion of the designated program.
  • Have completed prior academic study equivalent to at least a 4 year U.S. bachelor's degree,
  • Be fluent in English,
  • Have outstanding academic records, references and preparation in their chosen field,
  • Have satisfactory required test scores (GRE, GMAT, etc.)
  • Have high motivation and a serious commitment to completing the program within a  specific time-frame and returning home immediately after the approved program.
  

APPLICATION/ SELECTION PROCESS

 

 

Interested applicants must send certified copies of all degree transcripts, an updated CV and a statement of purpose no more than 2 pages in length. 

The statement should indicate degree desired (including major field and specialization), candidate’s research interests, and long term career goals.  Applicants must also discuss how they intend to contribute to their home university and to Zimbabwe after obtaining their desired degree.

After national selection, final nominations are reviewed in the United States by independent review committees. The Institute of International Education (IIE) will seek university placement of successful candidates.

Awards and university placement will be announced around April/May 2010 for programs beginning around August/September 2010. 

Pre-academic programs focusing on information technology for research purposes and academic writing as well as intensive English language training may begin around June/July 2010.  Application deadline is April 30, 2009. 

GRANT PROVISIONS

 

 

The Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program provides: 
  • Round-trip economy international travel and excess-baggage allowance. 
  • An allowance for settling in.
  • A pre-academic orientation program.
  • A monthly maintenance allowance and funding for books and professional activities.
  • Tuition and university fees.
  • Limited accident and sickness insurance.
  • Program required field trips.
  • Academic training.
