Harmony for Humanity 2006 set for December 3rd 2006
16th November 2006: This year’s edition of Harmony for Humanity will be held at Prince Edward High School in Harare on Sunday 3rd December 2006. The event begins at 10 in the morning and is expected to end at 7 pm. This year the fete is being celebrated under the theme “Embracing Our Diversity.”
The Harmony for Humanity fair seeks to foster a culture of appreciation and understanding of other cultures by providing a platform for various ethnic groups to share their different art forms ranging from dance, theatre and music. The event also seeks to use this diversity to encourage harmonious living and social cohesion in Zimbabwe.
Several local music and dance artists have been roped into perform during the event and the event will continue its hallmark of showcasing ethnic, religious and cultural diversity that exists in Zimbabwe through song, dance, visual arts and poetry.
Prominent among these are jazz musicians Bob Nyabinde, the Mbare trio and Imbongi Jazz. Zima award 2006 nominee Jeys Marabini and Skhu will also feature in a line up that promises real fun for the family. There will also be choral music as well as urban grooves for the young at heart. The official opening will be graced with a song on “hamorny” to be performed by the five finalists of the CBZ A Academy competition currently running on local television.
Traditional dance groups will include Makishi from Victoria Falls, Matjinge Primary school, Mabhiza dance group, Arcturus primary school with traditional Malawi dances as well as a Scottish dance group, belly dancing and the Zimbabwean traditional dance Jerusalem and Muchongoyo being performed by kwayedza from Kambuzuma.
Children will have their own children’s stage where they will experiment with different dances, work with painters to create their own painting of what harmony means to them. There will be a story teller to entertain them with folk lore from yester -year. There is a school’s poetry competition and winners will walk away with fabulous prizes.
