Filing immigrant visa petition (I-130) by U.S. citizen for an immediate relative
If you are a U.S. citizen, resident in Zimbabwe, and wish to apply for an immigrant visa for your spouse, child, stepchild or parent you should come to the Consular Section accompanied by the relative(s) for whom you are filing the petition(s). You need to bring the following documents (originals or certified copies or originals with a photocopy):
- Your U.S. passport, naturalization certificate or birth certificate and proof of residency in Zimbabwe
- Your marriage certificate
- A divorce decree or death certificate to prove termination of any previous marriage on you or your spouse's side
- For your spouse and yourself: one color photograph showing the RIGHT ear

- If filing for a child, the child's birth certificate
- If filing for a parent, your birth certificate and proof of U.S. nationality if you were not born in the U.S.

The processing time for an immigrant visa for an immediate relative normally varies according to individual circumstances and the volume of pending cases. We cannot, therefore, estimate how long it will take to process an individual case.
