Auxillia Chimusoro 2006 award winners

MEDIA CATEGORY
STAMBULI KIM — A grassroots journalist who despite limited resources of a small provincial newspaper, The Times of Gweru, has consistently and efficiently addressed relevant HIV and AIDS issues.
WOMEN AND YOUTH CATEGORYThe award honours GLADYS RUBAYA for her commitment, resilience and open heartedness for the past 26 yrs to provide HIV and AIDS services in an under privileged community.
Special Mention
NEVSON MPOFU — Has the ability to effectively communicate in a local language weekly column “Chirimumusakasaka chinozvinzvira” an issue which is generally considered taboo. In so doing, Nevson is increasing the reach of information to a wider audience in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
BEATRICE TONHODZAYI—For introducing an interactive dialogue in the print media on controversial and contemporary HIV and AIDS issues.
Runner Up
The award honours GERALD TSHEPO, a devoted man who has selflessly dedicated his time and energy in mitigating the HIV and AIDS crisis in Zimbabwe.
Special Mention
THEMBELIHLE HOUSE is situated in Mpopoma high density surburb and serves Bulawayo community as well as referrals from Matebeland North and South provinces. THEMBELIHLE has gone a long way in providing holistic care and support to people suffering from AIDS related conditions and their families and allowing them to die in dignity.

LEADERSHIP CATEGORY
The award honours TICHARWA MASIMIRA for being a consistent and visionary leader who has excelled beyond proportions in establishing arguably the largest AIDS Service organisation in the country (MASO).
Runner Up
The award honours BERNARD NYATHI for his outstanding commitment and energy in advocating for access to treatment in the fight against HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe .
ADVOCACY CATEGORY
The award honours National Association of the Support and Care of the Handicapped who have demonstrated leadership in advocating for the recognition of HIV and AIDS as a problem amongst people with disabilities.
Runner Up
In recognition of MARY SANDASI's energetic, courageous personality in confronting contemporary policy issues with an effort to alleviate the plight of HIV and AIDS amongst girls and women.

Born 1956 at Gokomere Mission, Masvingo, Zimbabwe

Publicly revealed her positive status in 1989
Founded Batanai HIV/AIDS Support Group in 1992
Co-founded Zimbabwe National Network of People living with HIV/AIDS in 1992
Founded the Masvingo Provincial Network of Support Groups now called Auxillia Chimusoro Masvingo Provincial Network for People living with HIV/AIDS.
Passed away in Harare on Friday, 19 June 1998.
