The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy is responsible for providing U.S. Government services to American citizens in Zimbabwe and to citizens of Zimbabwe interested in traveling to the United States.

Americans residing in or traveling through Zimbabwe are provided with a range of official services and information in the event of deaths, arrests, or robberies abroad, and in regard to citizenship and nationality, voting and U.S. taxes, federal benefits, notarization of documents, international parental child abduction and international adoptions. The Consular Section manages the issuance of U.S. passports, Consular Reports of Birth Abroad, and provides Americans abroad with Department of State travel warnings and public announcements useful in making travel plans.

The Consular Section can also:

  • Issue a Consular Report of Birth Abroad,
  • Distribute federal benefit payments,
  • Handle personal estates of deceased U.S. citizens,
  • Assist with absentee voting and Selective Service registration,
  • Provide U.S. tax forms.

Consular officers cannot act as travel agents, banks, lawyers, investigators, or law enforcement officers. Please do not expect them to find you employment, obtain residence or driving permits, act as interpreters, search for missing luggage, or settle disputes with hotel managers. They can, however, tell you how to get help on these and other matters. In order to allow the Consular Section to better help and serve you, please register with the Embassy as soon as you arrive in the country.

The Consular Section also issues immigrant and non-immigrant visas and provides related consular services to Zimbabweans interested in traveling or emigrating to the United States.
